Tactical vehicle rollovers remain a leading cause of fatal accidents in U.S. Army and Marine Corps training. The 2021 United States Government Accountability Office review of FY2010–FY2019 shows 2–3 Class A/B tactical vehicle accidents per month over the period and 85 resulting deaths, with rollovers accounting for a large share of the fatal events and persistent human‑factor contributors (training gaps, supervision lapses).

Blast threats (mines/IEDs) can rapidly lift and rotate light/medium armour, producing rollover‑type upsets within milliseconds and creating critical windows for survivability systems and post‑blast egress. The combination of high vehicle mass, elevated crew seating, and complex internal layouts means that occupants face significant risk of entrapment if they cannot exit quickly following a rollover or blast event.
